MEETING NOTES 7th NOVEMBER 2018

Meeting opened at 1930hrs. Meeting held at Freemasons chaired by John Norton.

BUSINESS ARISING FROM PREVIOUS MINUTES:

Wayne Gardiner movie - Movie was good, documentary style and learnt a lot of things about Wayne that we didn’t know before and everyone enjoyed it.

 Christmas Dinner 1st Dec now at Greenough $40 camping available see Peters email.

 Reminder - memberships due Dec

 Mad Hatters Morning Tea - About $1200 was raised

 Rotary Club of Geraldton/Greenough Quiz Night. 17th November, tables of 10 at $30.00 per person. More places available. Contact Peter

GENERAL BUSINESS:

National Rally 2021- Voluntees needed to help in organizing event. If you are prepared to be a coordinator, or have any trade qualifications or particular skills you are prepared to use for the Rally, please let me know and I will put you in contact with the relevant Manager. Also for those who are going to 2019 Mornington Rally-There will be a stand to promote the 2021 Ulysses Club National Rally to be held in Mandurah and volunteers are needed to promote at Mornignton. (see emails)

 WA State Odyssey September 2020. Could be hosted in Geraldton at the Camp School by Warnbro Sound and Geraldton branches or it may be in York. Discussed and it was decided to wait and find out more from Nungers and Peter before making commitments.

 Toy run 8th Dec- we have 25 coffee vouchers from Dome, also a certificate for Best dressed Santa, Motor bike and Scooter. Gary has the high-vis vest for volunteers. Still trying to get hold of the head ranger to get permission to park on the footpath. Also still trying to get police green corridor. Maybe should be advertised across social media eg. Everything Geraldton.

Peter has arranged for an ice cream truck for the departure and arrival locations he will donate part of his takings to the Salvos.

 Mingenew ride - We had lunch at the Mingenew Hotel food was good staff friendly and great ride.

 Rider down training - John Gourley wrote up some notes at the training and sent them to Ray if anyone wants a copy let John or Ray know.

 Apparently there are issues with Ulysses national website login. You need to ring Natcom to solve the problem.

 Fish and Chip near foreshore at Leeman were excellent when we went there on a ride.

 Suggestion from Daryll to have minor petty cash for buying cards etc. He will be sending out email about this for consideration by members for next meeting.

Meeting opened at 2019 hrs. Meeting held at Freemasons Hotel,

chaired by Bruce Ralph

PRESENT:

Peter & Cheryl Moore, Ray Haynes, Daryll McCaffrey, John Eck, Terry Brennan, Roger Christie, Graeme Stewart, John & Wenda Gourley, Linda King, Ross Herbert, Hank Neervoort, Robin Judd and Greg Davis.

BUSINESS ARISING FROM PREVIOUS MINUTES:

  • Roger’s "Distinguished Gentleman’s" ride was attended by 32-34 bikes this combined with the 620 registered bikes on the Perth ride raised $77,000. Roger is looking to organise another ride next year, all of the riders agreed it was a good day.
  • Rider Down course had 7 people attend, again well received with valuable information shared. Main highlights were Graeme’s recount of his motorcycle accident and the participation of Robin’s son, who has just got his bike licence. We would like to thank Linda for organising the training room, Ray for organising the event and Janine for travelling from Perth to hold the course.
  • Mount barker rally was a success with the weather being kind and the change of scenery making the riding enjoyable. Bruce and Ray commented on the benefits of keeping off the main roads, making the trip down and back as good as the main event. 10 Geraldton Ulyssians participated on the weekend.

GENERAL BUSINESS:

  • Premeeting presentation by Owen Catto from the Wheatbelt Men’s Health (Regional Men’s Health Initiative), about distress and why mental health matters. This was well attended by our members with light snacks provided by Owen. The presentation was well paced, frank, open with interesting topics. This support is open to everyone and we encourage anyone to use the information passed out on the night, or to contact anyone there on the night or Men’s Health direct.
  • Wayne Gardiner movie, will be held on Wednesday, 17th October 6:15pm at the Orana Cinema, Marine Terrace, Geraldton. Peter Moore is looking at having a meal at the Lemongrass restaurant after the movie, and would like to have numbers if you wish to attend. The movie runs for 98 Mins
  • 3rd to 4th November Albany hill climb Clayton is the contact point if you would like to know more.
  • Cue is a bike friendly town reports Peter and Cheryl. The club has been invited to visit and this may be an option when the weather cools down.
  • Toy ride in Mandurah Herbie is hoping to attend again this year and invites others to join in, if you need to know more contact him. Sounds like a good event.
  • Christmas party, 1st December, Priory Lodge Dongara. Proposed suggestion: Geraldton Toy Run in the morning possibly, and ride to Dongara for an evening meal, after the event. If overnight accommodation required let Peter know. Peter is now gaining pricing.
  • Mad Hatters Morning Tea and Guinness Book of Records attempt is on Wednesday, 10th October. Lift the lid on Mental Illness-Rotary Hat Day, 9am-11:30am Geraldton Foreshore, north side of Dome.
  • Rotary Club of Geraldton/Greenough Quiz Night. 17th November, tables of 10 at $30.00 per person. We’ve had two tables in past years and even won one year. Bookings to Peter Moore.
  • Mt Barker Presidents meeting attended by Nungers and Peter Moore, Matters discussed were the Shark Bay Rally 2019, the 8th December charity ride Perth, the Memorial ride Perth, 2020 Odyssey (York or Geraldton) and the next Presidents meeting in Perth, 1 April.

 

  • WA State Odyssey September 2020. Could be hosted in Geraldton at the Camp School by Warnbro Sound and Geraldton branches. If our branch is in favour of this, we need to inform Chris and Dianna Glover. The event would coincide with the Dongara Show and Shine and Sprint Race.
  • Indian Ocean Festival, 10th October, Jurien Bay, possible overnighter or two nights at the old Apex camp. Will send out invitations to other branches that may be interested.
  • Spoke about the National Rally Tony Collins is coordinating for February 2021 at the Peelwood Sporting Complex at Halls Head. Tony needs volunteers to learn the jobs, and convince the eastern staters to ride over. Tony’s phone number is 0428 487 805. If you are interested and can help, I will forward the email from Tony.
  • Don't forget Nungers little project for the web site with pictures of your first rides/bikes. Send them to him. If you don't have a picture or two just Google it, it will be there.

BUSINESS ARISING FROM PREVIOUS MINUTES:

·         Rider down first aid training. Ray has set date with Janine. Sunday 30th September Time 9am to 2pm Cost   $140. Venue-Rodanthe Room, Geraldton Regional Hospital. Email going out to everyone from Ray. Details are on the website where you can book - https://www.book.riderdown.com.au

·         Thank you to Phil and Silvia for organizing another Great 4x4 trip. Weather was great and had a drive through Pindar, Yuna, Tardun, camped at Barong. Then Morawa for lunch and on to Coalseam and home. Wild flowers put on a really good show. We had a really good morning tea at the Pindar hotel which is open for the season. Recommend to anyone that is going out that way while the season is on.

·         Bruce has let Natcom know that our club is still here and contacts are still himself and Peter Moore.

·         Also Bruce will update the Midwest times when he can.

·         Bunnings show on shine at Bunnings went well 3 bikes and popular bucking bull, quite a few attended.

·         Albany Hill Climb on 3-4 Nov 2018 Clayton and so others going contact Clayton. He has sent out update on Geraldton Ulysses Google Groups.

GENERAL BUSINESS:                

·         It has been decided to change to ride calendar as the Geraldton Distinguished gentlemen’s ride is now on the 9 Sep. We will make this the ride for the day as it is a good cause. The 16th Sep will now be decide on the day. Dale will send email out.

·         Bruce informed us that the Horrocks shop will be doing breakfast on Sunday mornings 9-11am for anyone that wishes to partake at the Community Hall. Starting on the 7 Oct every 2 weeks and see how it goes. Don’t know cost. Lady said she doesn’t need numbers.

·         As mentioned before by Ray in an email he has suggested that we invite Owen Catto from Wheatbelt Mens Health to come to our next meeting. Everyone agreed it was a good idea so Ray is arranging everything. His topic is "Distress and why mental health matters". Please check Google Groups for updates from Ray.
